TV shows fuel interest in dance

“A fifth of British adults have become more interested in dance as a result of shows on television such as Strictly Come Dancing.”

This statement made in this British website shows that there is a high positive correlation between what is broadcasted on TV and the habits of the viewers, at least concerning the dancing habit in UK.
How this article develops this idea does not really show that it is the fact of broadcasting dance shows that lead to the dancing habit of the British society, or if it is the opposite.
But if the first statement holds, this means that broadcasting something on TV will impact greatly the habits of the viewers, and the governments or any other party can take advantage of this correlation to make people adopt a given habit.
Since voting in Morocco is set for the 25th November, the Moroccan government may starting broadcasting some shows where they will keep on showing explicitly or implicitly people, and more importantly, youths voting.
Voting is just an example that I chose, this correlation can be used for many other activities or to transmit some socially responsible habits.

  1. Very interesting Hasna,
So if we suppose that it is possible to partially change the society by transmitting certain type of contents via mass media, and if we imagine you are the Program Director of the most influential Moroccan TV channel, what would be for you a typical Moroccan TV schedule, that would transform Moroccan youth and create a society young Moroccans would be proud of?

  2. Being the Program Director of the most influential Moroccan TV channel means that I will need to diffuse programs that follow the regulations set by the Moroccan law, and this already restricts a lot what I can schedule on TV, and this also may not be what the youths like.
If we consider again that what was written in the article is true, then I will schedule a program that will influence the Moroccan youths, but that goes at the same time with the common values of the society.
Canal+ is a channel that I like very much, they have a clear schedule and they stick to a subject the whole day approaching it in very different ways that will make you understand the whole concept, and that targets all kind of audiences, if I were the Program Director of the Moroccan TV channel I will adopt the exact same strategy.
For instance, Morocco has officially two religions: Islam as a majority and Judaism. Youths are known today to give up their religion for some fantasies, what I will do concerning this issue is to diffuse religious programs all day long: movies, documentaries, sketches, etc. about all religions so that I push youths to know about all religions not to follow a path by fashion.
Also, since the voting day is close, I will diffuse programs about the importance of voting, how voting changed the societies, etc.
These programs will not be boring because I will use many different approaches to discuss the subject, including funny ones.
